HCL TECHNOLOGIES PAPER - 24 APR 2006 - NAGPUR

0n 24th April (b'day of sachin tendulkar) HCL came for campus recruitment at our university. It was open to all colleges of d univ. In fact it was held at IMT (institute of management n technology 40kms from ngp). That means mba, mtech, mca n we 3rd year BE people were there.

Prior to this I had 3 aptis and 1 interview uncleared.(tcs, mbt, kanbay n infocepts). So morale was real down.

Now coming to d point, the apti consisted of two sections:
            Section 1: Analytical (Maths, LR, etc)-35 ques
            Section 2: Technical (C, C++)-20 ques.
        Time allotted was 70 minutes( incl both sections)

I m telling u seriously d paper was tough. Apti paper consisted of d following type ques :

The 1st ques consisted of Data regarding a cricket quadrangular series. Each team has played 2 matches. Teams were India, Australia, Bangladesh n Sri Lanka. More data as runs scored, wickets taken, wickets lost, matches won n lost was given. Lot of data was missing too. There were 6 ques on this abstract.

There was a ques on relations. Where a lot of data was given after which only one ques was there to ans.

There was this que which I liked .
                     SEND
                  +MORE
                  MONEY

Each letter has individual no. from 0-9. 3 ques were asked on it.
One of them was :- how will u write HONEY. then 4 options were there.

One of the ques:- an isoceless triangle PQR has the angle P=20 degrees. Pts T and S  r on PQ n PR respectively. Angle SQR=60 and angle TRQ=50. find angle TSQ.
I found all the possible angles except TSQ.

Then there were ques regarding profit and loss and percentages.
There were 3 ques on this.

2 ques on trigonometry were there too. Then there were questions on seating arrangements, line sequences (persons standing in a queue etc) and 3 to 4 questions which could be solved through venn diagram.

There was a question where all the 4 options were 5, 6.5, 7, 8. but the ans was coming out to be 6. so I ticked 6.5 after trying three times.

So the paper was ok. Hint is to stick to the basics and solve with confidence and utilize time effectively.

The Technical Test was a bit tough with questions completely in C and C++. There was 1 ques regarding number system(binary to decimal conv). Then 4ques to find o/p of the prog with calloc and malloc functions. More Ques to guess the o/p of the programs. I cant recall the ques since I solved only 9 out of 20 (but am sure all were correct).

After the test we all were very depressed n were thinking to go back (but remained at the campus). After 2 tough hrs they came up with results. Two lists were made. 1st containing those with higher marks who will directly have the interviews (hr and technical) and the other one having those who will 1st have GD n then PI's. I was very lucky to find my name in the second list'.
Out of 500 to 600 only 180 to 200 cleared the apti. The GD list was divided into groups.  

Within 15 mins we entered the GD room. We had a group of 10. We were asked to suggest a topic. One of us said "reservations" n we were said to start on it. The same girl who suggested started. I spoke fourth but did it very nice. After 5 mins she(moderator) said the topic changes to "service agreements (i.e,Bonds) in IT industries ok or not?"
On coming out my friend assured me that I did fantastic. The moderator came out of the room 10 minutes later. I crossed my fingers. 5 out of 10 were selected. I was there in that 5.
This was at 4 pm. Then we were to wait for our turn for the HR. My turn came at 10pm.
