HCL Technologies Interview Experience - Noida, November 10, 2014
I attended placement process of hcl technologies at Amity University noida. The process was divided into 5 rounds and each round had huge eliminations and marks of each round were added to make the final cutoff, so try to give your best in every round.
The process started with over 1000 students.
First round was a simple English test and you need not to study for this round if you have been studying in a good school and have a reasonable knowledge of the language. Around 200 students were eliminated as the cutoff was really high.
Second round was gd/jam. You know the rules of gd. But in jam you had to speak on the topic given at that moment and topics were like- colour black, cow, our national flag, Last vacation. Don't be nervous and use your mind. Just try to speak and don't be quiet for too long. Around 400 students were eliminated in this round.
I was asked to speak about anything so I spoke about my favourite TV show how I met your mother. Next I was asked to describe my last vacations and I was still speaking when lady hr asked for my resume and told me to appear for technical and hr the next day. It was that simple. All you have to do is speak and speak confidently. In my group of 30 students only 5 were selected.
Next day we had technical round first. Questions asked were simple like difference between Java and c, some basic dbms queries, layers of osi, difference between osi and tcp/ip. Eliminations in this round were less as compared to other rounds.
After technical round shortlisted students were sent for HR round which had huge Eliminations. We were not expecting Eliminations in this round but this round had most Eliminations which was a shock to us. Well my HR was quite young and friendly. He asked basic questions like your long term goals, short term goals.
He gave me a situation where I had to choose between work and family. Prepare well for these questions. Act confident and don't try to give bookish answers. Try to express yourself well but don't get friendly with them. Act professional and act sincere.
Third day we had presentation by team hcl and they cleared the doubts regarding the job responsibilities and profile. Package offered was comparatively less than other companies. We were offered the position of graduate engineers trainee and package was 2.75 lpa.
In the end we had online aptitude test by amcat.
It had 3 sections- quant, English and reasoning. For this round around 100 students were selected.
After 4 days final results were declared and I made in the final list of 44 selected students.
This was one of the happiest day for me as a finally got placed in a good reputed company. If you don't get selected, don't loose hope. Keep preparing.
I myself was rejected in 9 companies. At times I felt really disheartened and thought of giving up. But as they say you have to keep waiting for the right moment. I had not expected to get placed in hcl because they had a tiresome recruitment process and it was different from other companies.
Don't lose hope and never give up, you will get enough opportunities to try your luck. Just practice aptitude from IndiaBix and study for technical from your textbooks of Java, C and data structure.
Don't try to go in deep, just cover basic topics and have a thorough knowledge of at least one programming language.
I myself never studied for English as I never felt the need. For aptitude I studied only solved questions of R. S Aggarwal. IndiaBix was great help too.
Still waiting for my offer Later.
See you in HCL.
All the best!
