Nuclear power needs subatomic particles to be scientifically assembled to make energy.
Whereas Thermal power needs coal (of which requires the availability of trees).

1. Nuclear energy is produced with the help of nuclear fission reaction.
2. Thermal energy is produced when coal is burned at a very high temperature. The energy produced is then used to drive the steam generators which in turn produces electricity.
