Why we have to subtract by 1?

Anyone please explain it.

Consider total body part =1.

Now one sixth part of the body is bone and one tenth part is skin.

So from body part(1) we subtract portion of bone(1/6) and portion of skin(1/10).

We get 11/15.

Hope this helps :).
