firstly find the prime factors of both the numbers
then choose the common prime numbers whose power is less
tats the hcf

36/2=18
18/2=9
9/3=3
3/3=1

that is 2*2*3*3
similarly for 86 and then take comman prime between them
and then multiply as above

H.C.F OF 36 AND 84 is 12 so common factor is 12

Similarly 84/2=42
42/2=21
21/3=7

Then we have to take the common on both sides i.e from 2*2*3*2 and 2*2*3*7. thus 2*2*3=12. Hence the answer is obtained.

H.C.F OF 36 AND 84 is

36)84(2
72
--
12)36(3
36
---
X
so H.C.F=12.
