7.
Six years ago, the ratio of the ages of Kunal and Sagar was 6 : 5. Four years hence, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 10. What is Sagar's age at present?
16 years
18 years
20 years
Cannot be determined
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the ages of Kunal and Sagar 6 years ago be 6x and 5x years respectively.

Then, (6x + 6) + 4 = 11
(5x + 6) + 4 10

10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10)

5x = 10

x = 2.

Sagar's present age = (5x + 6) = 16 years.

@Resmi.

Can you explain to me how you took there is a 10yrs gap?

it is 6yrs ago and 4yrs hence do we need to add this?

6 : 5
11: 10.

The difference between two ratios ie 11-6= 5 10-5=5 both are 5.
So the ratio is balanced.
this difference represents the 10 yr gap 5--->10 yr.
10/5 =2.
Multiply this value by any given ratio.
if the ratio 6:5 is multiplied by 2 you will get the age of Kunal and Sagar 6yrs back.
ie 12 and 10 respectively.
So the present age of Sagar is 10 + 6 = 16.

Let the present ages of Kunal and Sagar be x and y respectively.
6 years ago ages will be X-6 and y-6.

Ratio of ages (X-6)/(y-6)=6/5 --->eqn 1
Ratio of ages (X+4)/(y+4)=11/10 ---> eqn 2

Equation 1 ---> 6y-5x = 6.
Equation 2 ---> 10x-11y = 4.

When you solve for x and y u get 18 and 16
So Sagar's present age is 16 years

I think this makes more sense.

Try this shortcut guys;

6:5 x 11:10 ===>cross multiplication via fractions or distributive property.

You will get.. 60:55 or 12:11 // now add this to the current age ratio which is 6:5.
you will now get their age, and that is 18 :16 which means, Sagar's age is 16.

The present age is not given.

So, the Present age = past age + years ago.

6x-6 means past age (6 years ago) and 6x+6 means Present age.

It is clearly said that 6 years ago their age was 6:5, so and hence their present age will be (6x+6)/(5x+6) and hence after 4 years you have to add another 4.

(6x + 6) + 4=11.
(5x + 6) + 4=10.
10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10).
5x = 10,
x = 2.
Sagar's present age = (5x + 6) = 16 years.

Even this happened to me @Khaisar.
The correct answer after solving it again was:

(6x+6)+4. 11
---------------= --------
(5x+6)+4. 10

(6x+6)+4

10(6x+10)=11(5x+10)
60x+100=55x+110
60x-55x=110-100
5x=10
x=10÷2
x=5

Sugar current age=5x+6
=10+6
=16

Answer=16

@Khaisar.

The correct answer after solving it was:

(6x+6)+4/(5x+6)+4. = 11/10.
(6x+6)+4.

10(6x+10) = 11(5x+10),
60x+100 = 55x+110,
60x-55x = 110-100,
5x = 10,
x = 10÷2,
x = 5.

Sugar current age = 5x + 6,
= 10+6,
= 16.

Can u explain how (6x+6)+4, It will be (6x+4) right?

Because 4 years hence means we have to add (6x)+4.
