An accurate clock shows 8 o'clock in the morning. Through how may degrees will the hour hand rotate when the clock shows 2 o'clock in the afternoon?

[A]. 144º[B]. 150º
[C]. 168º[D]. 180º

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

Angle traced by the hour hand in 6 hours = 360 x 6 º = 180º.

60'=360 deg then
12 hrs=360 deg
12-60
6 - ? = (60*6)/12=180 deg

Angle = mod(5.5*2m - 30*h);

where m=minute, h=hour;

Please yet I need to clear explanation.

Clock is consider as circle 360 deg
the duration of Time= 6 hrs
total = 12 hrs
calculated deg=time duration*deg/total hrs
=6(360/12)=180

HEY MARAN...HERE IS A ONE MORE METHOD 2 SOLVE DIS...

SEE WE HAVE TO FIND THE DEGREE @ 2p.m.
1 HR=30 DEGREES
SO THE GAP TIME BETWEEN 8a.m. to 2p.m. IS 6 HRS...
SO 6*30=180 DEGRESS...

I HOPE U UNDERSTOOD....

Rishi ....Thnks u gave a good explanation

Each hour takes 180 degree to rotate.

That's very simple concept each clock takes a complete rotation to complete an hour. So one complete rotation denotes the angle of 180 degree.

Rishi. Good solution.

Chandraprakash said: (Fri, Aug 26, 2011 12:28:45 AM)

Sethil ji you are wrong. A complete rotation means 360 degree. & 2 o 'clock comes its half as in 6 position. So ans is 360/2=180 degree simple.

A Clock strikes every hour-once at 1.00, twice at 2.00, and so on. The clock takes 6 seconds to strike 5.00 and 12 seconds to strike 9.00. the time needed to strike 1.00 is negligible. How long does the clock need for all its striking in 24 hours?

a)168 Seconds
b)178 Seconds
c)188 Seconds
d) 198 Seconds

How to solve this question?

Adityagenius said: (Mon, Dec 5, 2011 03:46:59 AM)

198 seconds
to cover up 4 intervals=6seconds
1 gap=1.5 sec
2*(1.5+3.0+4.5+6+7.5+9+10.5+12+13.5+15+16.5+0)=198 seconds
as first interval takes 0 second 5-1 take 6 seconds
6/4= 1.5

Rishi had given very good explanation.

No Rishi. this solution is not good for all problems.
because just think when we have to find angle between 1'o clock and 3'o clock which angle you will consider?
1-3 or 3-1 ?
if 1 to 3 the angle is 60 degrees
if 3 to 1 the angle is 300 degrees

Am I right?

Hey rishi can you explain that how 1hr = 30 degree.

Hi guys,
I don't know proper rules & how to calculate ?
Please tel me any solutions about clocks problems.

1hr = 30 degree.

6hrs degree = 30*6 = 180.

5min = 30dg (degree).

1min = 6dg.

If min 6 dg = hr 1/2 dg.

So angle between hr and min hand is 6*30 = 180dg.

Now from 12, hr hand is shifted and we have to call that shift.

So from 12, min hand is 25 min.

So 25*1/2 = 17.5dg.

Now 180+17.5dg = 197.5dg.

How to apply theta = 30h-(11/2)m in this question.

Can we apply those in every question?

Manoj said: (Sat, Jun 1, 2013 12:08:59 PM)

Min hand take 60 min for complete 360 degree.

So 1 min = 360/60.
1 min = 6 degree.

Hour hand take 12 hours to complete 360 degree.

So 1 min = 360/ (60*12).
1 min = 0.5 degree.

So 8'o clk - 2'o clk = 6 hrs,

1 hour = 0.5*60 = 30 degree.
So 6 hour = 6*30 = 180 degree.
